Scholarly Sources: Search and Cite Transcript

Welcome. I'm going to give you a quick overview of how to do a search in the UMGC library. You'll notice that we are on the OneSearch homepage and I have selected the boxes that state “full text only” and “scholarly journals only”  That's what we want here. Typing your search term “nonprofit ethics” is the one I selected today and hit search.  The articles that appear here should only be in fact academic journals and include a full text option. The full text option is important because you need to read the whole thing. If you are going to get the most out of this experience, you're going to have to read the whole thing.  So when you first click on the article it gives you the title and the authors and Abstract. The abstract is not enough to give you a full understanding of what the article is talking about. So you’re going to come over here and you're going to download PDF and the entire article will come up. Now what you do with that article is also important. Here you’ll note on the right hand side of screen you have a variety of little icons.  These icons are important. The icon on the bottom gives you a perma-link to the article, the icon above that shows you how to download the article, and the icon above that gives you the citation options. It will give you all the different forms that you can use here but at UMGC we use APA 7th edition.  Highlight that citation, cut and paste into your word document and please double check to make sure the citation is correct. There are lots of resources in the classroom that explain to you what a correct APA Citation looks like, you can also Google it. I will point out here that this title of the journal itself is not formatted correctly. I apologize I don't put them in there. Some of the citations in the library are not correct, you need to double-check. So only the first letter of the journal title should be capitalized or and/or the first word following a colon, so all of these “the delusion, model, organization, transgression… all need to be in lowercase. And that’s all for now. I hope that was helpful. That will give you a quick idea of how to do a scholarly search in the UMGC library.
